Meet Dr. Parastoo Jangouk
Dr. Jangouk is dual board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. She earned her medical degree with honors from Tehran University of Medical Sciences with a distinction in Gastroenterology research. After medical school, she completed research fellowships at Heinrich-Heine University in Duesseldorf, Germany and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine where she authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in prestigious medical journals. She then moved to Pittsburgh to attend University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) for her internship and residency in internal medicine. She was recruited to pursue her fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at Yale University School of Medicine. During her fellowship, she worked with Dr. Garcia-Tsao, chief of Digestive Diseases at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, on research developing non-invasive tools to diagnose cirrhosis.
After completing her fellowship, Dr. Jangouk was recruited by University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) where she worked as an attending in Gastroenterology and Hepatology for two years. During her time at UCLA, she developed an expertise in brain-gut interaction, lifestyle medicine, gut health, and gut microbiota.
Dr Janguk is an avid believer in Lifestyle and Integrative Medicine when it comes to prevention and treatment of diseases. She also believes mind and body are not separate and to treat the body; we need to start with treating the mind. She is a certified midfulness coach and Master Reiki instructor.
Dr Jangouk is a public speaker with a strong passion in women empowerment. She was invited speak at many recognized national and international conferences including American Medical Women Association (AMWA), Digestive Disease Week (DDW), Texas Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (TSGE), and “Women in Pediatrics”. She is Chair of GI Alliance Women in Leadership Committee and an active member of American College of Gastroenterology Women Committee.
Dr. Jangouk has variety of clinical interests, and she is skilled in all areas of gastroenterology and hepatology. She has expertise in colon cancer screening, gastrointestinal endoscopy, functional gastrointestinal disorders (including irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation, and functional dyspepsia), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), celiac disease, inflammatory bowel diseases, and liver diseases (viral hepatitis, fatty liver, NASH and cirrhosis).
She performs upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy, and pH testing.
Dr. Jangouk is a member of several national and regional professional societies including the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the American College of Gastroenterology (ASG), the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), the Texas Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (TSGE), the Texas Medical Association (TMA), and Travis County Medical Association (TCMA).
Dr. Jangouk is fluent in English and Farsi and intermediate in German and French. She lives with her husband and French Bulldog in Austin and has several hobbies including travel, weightlifting, yoga, running, hiking, dining, watching movies, and learning languages
