Meet Dr. Anita Bhagavathula
Dr. Anita Bhagavathula received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of Georgia prior to receiving a Master of Science in Pre-Clinical Sciences from Mercer University School of Medicine. She then went on to receive her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree as well as a Master of Business Administration from Lincoln Memorial University-Debusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tennessee. Dr. Bhagavathula then completed her Internal Medicine Residency in Texas at Corpus Christi Medical Center. Her Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Fellowship was completed at Larkin Community Hospital in South Miami Florida. During her time in Fellowship, she was a Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation Inflammatory Bowel Disease Scholarship recipient.
As a dancer and martial artist, Dr. Bhagavathula always had special interest in nutrition and gut health to optimize her personal health to meet the demands of her activities. Over the years, medical research on the topic of gut health and how it relates to mental and physical wellbeing has grown exponentially. She began her own study on Crohn's disease as a freshman in college with Emory University's Gastroenterology Department. Dr. Bhagavathula feels that one of the most meaningful parts of her job is to translate the results of these studies to her patients in a way that helps them understand their disease process and take control of the long-term outcomes. As a gastroenterologist, she gets to do what she did for herself for many years, which is to distill the plethora of information available to customize a plan that puts the individual in charge of his or her health. She would like for her patients to feel more empowered with information when they leave. Dr. B loves to teach and explain things in a way that helps patients understand and in some cases prevent their symptoms.
Outside of the office, she enjoys many hobbies including dancing, weightlifting, kayaking, hiking, ju jitsu, water sports, trying new recipes, and exploring new areas. Dr. Bhagavathula is fluent in Spanish, Hindi, Telugu.
